What is Paediatric Intensive Support Navigation?

From untangling the web of available services to advocating for your child’s rights in various settings, the journey as a parent-carer is complex. And since we started billing for our support, we've been looking for ways to keep our service affordable while still being able to feed our team's families. We know that the cost of living is rough- and deciding where to put your cash is challenging, regardless of how much you need the support. Every penny counts…

And we get it! so, if Coles and Woolies won’t stand up and take it on the chin, we’ll be the ones to throw on our “big-boy pants” and stick up our hand.

That's where our Paediatric Intensive Support Navigation comes in. In a time where the NDIS is changing faster than the days of the week, this new service is designed to guide families through the maze of mainstream, community, and alternative funded services, ensuring that carers and the children they support can access the best possible care and opportunities.

And thanks to our strong bond with Carers WA, we’re able to offer this as a rebatable (and in some cases, fully subsidised), service!

Paediatric Intensive Support Navigation is more than just a program; it's a partnership. Our Intensive Support Navigator (Monique) can work closely with carers facing intensive demands due to the complex nature of their caregiving roles, the rapidly changing systems offered by the government (Education/NDIS), and the challenges of navigating service gaps. The goal? To empower carers with the knowledge, skills, and support they need to sustain their caring role longer and more effectively.

Down below, I’ve included some questions you might have about the Paediatric Intensive Support Navigation service. If I’ve missed anything, feel free to give us a call, or reach out to us at info@rippleability.org.

Some of the Paediatric Intensive Support Navigators Services Include:

  • Carer Coaching: Tailored support for your family to assist with navigating the complexities of the Paediatric disability ‘world’. Help to build your advocacy skills to find better supports and services in systems you need to engage with to ensure your child has the best possible opportunities in life: health/education/community/NDIS/government/community care, etc.

  • Systems Advocacy and Skill Building: Providing you with the language and tools needed to best advocate for your child in NDIS plan meetings, educational settings, the healthcare system, and the wider community so you can fight for the support and services your child needs and deserves.

  • Paediatric-Specific Support Navigation (NDIS and Gateway Funded): Linking children to supports and services that help build their functional capacity. Including understanding different support types, goal setting for the future, and building awareness about what is best practice in therapy and early intervention.

How do you get started with Paediatric Intensive Support Navigation?

The great news is, it’s simple. To get started, please contact one of our Carer Connectors (kahla@rippleability.org OR natalie@rippleability.org) and ask about Paediatric Intensive Support Navigation.

Who is eligible for Paediatric Intensive Support Navigation?

To be eligible, you must be a carer as defined by the Commonwealth Carer Recognition Act 2010 and in addition demonstrate that you:

  • Are experiencing complex circumstances which impact on your quality of life and affect your ability to perform your caring role.

  • Are an adult over the age of 25 years.

  • Have completed intake and assessment through the Carer Gateway.

  • Need assistance that requires care coordination or case management which impacts more than one service area.

How is the rebate for Paediatric Intensive Support Navigation determined?

Much like other subsidies, rebates are determined based on several different factors. As such, rebates are determined on a case-by-case basis. This is conducted as part of our initial planning meeting with you.
